Hi all, I haven't actually posted anything in here yet, I've been meaning to, but for one reason or another I've not found the time. But as we've now just completed week seven, meaning we're half way through, I thought I best get on with it. So here goes...
Firstly I'm going back to 1st March, the day I signed up for Man v Fat. I was sat in my car listening to Talk Sport at lunchtime, in Haverfordwest, where I was on business. They were discussing Man v Fat Football and actually had Andrew Shanahan, the creator of Man v Fat Football on their show. I thought to myself "what a bloody good idea, I wonder if there's any leagues near me", then Shan mentioned four new leagues that were just about to be set up, and one was going to be in Yeovil. I grabbed my phone, and I signed up there and then - I didn't realise at the time that I was the first to sign up to Yeovil.
The next few weeks were a struggle for all concerned, Roger @smithr82 especially, our coach. Roger spent at least two or three Saturday's in Yeovil town centre handing out leaflets. Him and I hit some of the trading estates flyer dropping, and as the numbers slowly grew, some of the other lads did a similar thing in the surrounding towns.
Now to the 28th March, the day we should have started the league. We were still struggling with numbers, I think we had somewhere around 30 signed up at this point, some way short of numbers needed to start - the decision was made to postpone the start until 28th April, to give us a chance to get more people signed up. Fast forward a month, we hit the numbers needed and it was time to step onto 'Roger's scales'.
I weighed in at 103.8kg (16st 4lb), this means I have put on about 4 stone in 20 months, seems crazy, but then worked out, it equals roughly a pound a week gain. It doesn't sound a lot, does it, until you add it up over a longer period of time. I told myself I need to reverse this - if I can lose a pound a week instead, in week one I'll be two pounds lighter, week two four pounds lighter, and so on, than I'd likely be without Man v Fat.
So here we are seven weeks in, I've lost 6.6kg (1st 1lb), I now weigh 15st 3lb - just think without Man v Fat, with my average increase of a pound a week before, I'd probably be in the region of 16st 11lb now..!!
I make no apologises for starting this thread with the issues faced by all in getting this league off the ground, but with the weight I've lost and for all the new friendships created over the last 2-3 months, the hard work was worth it, and it was without doubt one of the best decisions I've made signing up.
