MVF Soccer UWA - S2 - Week 7 - Keeping it slow and steady!

Another great week for the MANvFAT Soccer League – our running total of weight lost is 270kg !

A few more of you have now joined the 5%-ranks: congratulations to Gary K & Wade McCagh (Apex), Ric H (Fatchester), Dustin A (Hardly Athletic), Michael R (Jaffas), Dave B & Ian M (Giants), and Graeme R & Anthony M (Kebabs)! And our very first person to join the legendary 10% club this season is Ullrich E (Fatchester)! Give that man a big pat on his shoulders when you see him next week! Amazing stuff all round boys! Really good to see many of you staying on track and working towards continued weight-loss!

Back to Basics … During conversations this week, some of you mentioned that your weight-loss has slowed down, even though your diet hasn’t changed much over the last few weeks. There might be a few reasons for that, and hitting plateaus on the road to weight loss is common. Keep persevering – don’t be disheartened. Stick to healthy eating and exercise, and you’ll find that you’ll start losing weight again before too long.

Also worth considering is that your weight may be plateauing despite you losing fat! It’s very likely that if you’ve increased your exercise regime, you will have gained a bit of muscle weight. Although that might not mean you’ll be hitting your 10% any time soon, you’re doing something incredible for your health. You’ll be moving better and feeling better, and it will show on the pitch.

Another thing to watch out for is that while some of you have started to switch to healthier food alternatives, there are some food items that contain more calories than you might think! E.g. some granola can have about 597 calories per cup, which is about the same or more calories than a roast chicken thigh! Check this link ( for other food items that might be deceiving you, and are sabotaging your efforts!

What about alcohol? For lots of us, a drink is part and parcel of social occasions and the weekend wind-down. I know that for some of you, going teetotal is your solution, while for others, just drinking in moderation is the best bet. Finding ways to decrease our consumption isn’t too tricky – you might think about swapping a pint for a middy, or swapping that big, hoppy (and full of calories) beer for a lower-calorie option – there are some great ones out there like Pure Blonde, Hahn Super Dry, Corona Ligera, and Coopers Clear, and there’s always the old classic of vodka, soda, and lime. Just remember that the soda water doesn’t count as real water; stay hydrated with regular H2O, you’ll thank yourself the next morning. There are plenty of other alternatives to kick the caloric intake from alcohol at

Lastly, just a shout out to Jolly Green Giants for their amazing work this week! They have been plagued with a lot of player issues and are down to only 7 on their roster currently. However they have been persevering and have been rewarded with a massive 12 points off-pitch just among 6 players! Really nice work guys!

We have a great line up coming up next week and cooler weathers too, which will be great for match nights! Let’s stay smart on the diet over the weekend and get ready for the weigh-in next Wednesday! That’s all from me this week! Have a great weekend!
