Firstly, welcome to Man v Fat Football at Arden Academy, for those who haven't met me yet I'm Ben Griffiths the league coach and will be supported by Ben Gallon for this coming season.
My story with Man V Fat is that a couple of mates had lost about 8 stone between them over 2 seasons and so after a Christmas of crazyness I saw what the potential was for me to get fit again.
My preconception was that it was just gong to be fat blokes who can't play football and as I wasn't a big guy to start with it would be a walk in the park! SO WRONG!! Most of the teams, you will find, will be very competetive and healthy rivilaries will appear from the start!
My start weight was 100kg and my last weight was 76.4kg, this was done over 2 seasons, with holidays and a new born baby to boot. Another twist to the tale was that in week 5, at a Man v Fat Tournament at St Georges Park, I unfortunately ruptured my Achilles, subjecting me to an operation and 10 weeks in a cast and then an air boot with rehab still ongoing to date. I played for an hour on Monday for the first time in 6 months so felt really good about that.
What it does prove though is that diet is for sure, 70-80% of losing weight. Crutching for 3-5 miles a day around the block does help however!!
Some guys have asked me about how they can reduce their drinking habbits as going cold turkey can be very hard and extremely demoralising. Take a look at the below link, it may be useful. The whole website if full of great info. https://www.drinkaware.co.uk/advice/how-to-reduce-your-drinking/
All the teams have been generated and the fixtures are out! Remember guys to arrive about 30 minutes before kick off to weigh in and warm up. Below is a link to a warm up video that may be of use to you.
From those who played briefly on Sunday, we will flip the pitch through 90 degrees to stop shots flying into the gardens behind and losing balls each week as the fences seem quite low. If anyone of the 9am lads wants to arrive at 8 when the school opens with me, to set up the goals and pitch markings, it would be appreciated so I can get back to the changing rooms for 8.20 to start the weigh ins.
One last point is that there will be a tournament at St Georges Park again on the 16th December. To quality for that you must hit your 5% target. 10 players who qualify will then be drawn to represent our league. The Link shows what its all about https://youtu.be/uUcUaYLZvKw
Have a great season guys and I'll see you on Sunday. Who'll be top of the league???
